The 20/20 Experience ~ Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake dazzled us with Future Sex /Love Sounds six years ago, an album which could best be described as eargasmic. I doubt there is anyone who didnt love every record on that album.

Then, come 2013, he dropped Suit and Tie as the debut song off his new album The 20/20 experience and some of us were left wondering why Justin was trying to sound like Robin Thicke. It was not the sound that we are accustomed to when it comes to Justin, and despite the fact that the song features Jayz still does not make it any more spectacular in my opinion. Even if i am a major jigga stan

To be honest, Suit and Tie made me think that maybe Justin Timberlakes album would not match up to the success of his last album, then he dropped Mirrors which renewed my faith in his vocal prowess, and I stumbled upon a full album stream which JT was kind enough to share before his album drops, and I cannot stop listening to it!

Justin has teamed up with producer Timberland, and once again they have managed to create musical gold!  Just like in FSLS (Future Sex/Love Sounds) the songs features intros and outros which is like a bonus because you get the benefit of listening to two songs as one.

Pusher Love Girl

This song has a neo-soul feel to it, with a twinge of Southern flow. The song breaks out into an intro featuring Timberlands signature sounds, with JT spitting some lines.

Suit & Tie

I must admit, this song grew on me, so I do not hate it as much as I did at first. JayZ‘s rap is luck lustre in my opinion, but the song has a nice mellow feel to it.

Dont Hold The Wall

The song begins with a beautiful acappella, followed by some Arabic like, tribal instrumentals and beats. Justin’s vocals and Timberland’s beats are just magical, you can clearly see how awesome their collaborative work is.

Strawberry Bubblegum

This is my favourite song off this album. From the intro to the outro, the lyrics, the beats, nothing but amazing. I never pay attention to lyrics of songs, but this one definitely reached out to me.

‘Don’t ever change your flavour coz I love the taste’

He is basically telling some lucky woman somewhere that he loves her for who she is, and she shouldn’t change anything. Sigh, JT should have just married me!

The songs fades out into a soothing jazzy beat, as Justin serenades us with his sensational voice. Baby making music right here!

Tunnel Vision

It’s hard to miss Timberland’s ad libs in this song, and the harmony in the vocals is simply splendid.

Spaceship Coupe

JT puts the Rhythm in this blues, a lovely ballad with an impressive electric guitar solo towards the end of the song.

That Girl

The repetitive chorus tends to stick in your head, I do not mind the southern feel to the jam.

Let The Groove Get In

The compilation of all the instruments and the vocals is simply magnificent, and a joy to listen to. The outro, do not mess with Justin’s soprano, he hits all the right notes, and blends in perfectly with the acappella.

What’s not to love about this song? It speaks for itself, it is everything.

Blue Ocean Floor

This mellow tune gives you a greater appreciation for his voice, it’s so lovely and serene.

Given that I had the worst expectations for this album, I am pleasantly surprised and deeply in love with it. I give it an 8/10. I strongly recommend you read this track by track review and 20 things you need to know about the 20/20 experience to get a greater appreciation for this album.

This week in music

The video for Kelly Rowland’s new single Kisses Down Low is finally out, I love this song, and I like the vibrant colours in the video, she is so gorgeous! Those weaves though 0_o

Jada Grace is the new 13 year old sensation who has been taken under the wing of Redfoo formerly of LMFAO and is being mentored by Smoky Robinson. The little lady is a triple threat, she can sing, act and dance. She has an amazing voice, but I do not get why she is dressed like an 18 year old in her video. Kids should just remain as kids, adulthood aint fun yo!

This next video was released yesterday by Victoria Kimani, Bamboo and Kimya’s little sister. She is signed to Chocolate City, a Nigerian music label, and I love this song, so catchy. Is it just me or she looks like she had some work done on her face?

There is some controversy over Sean Kingston’s new song Beat It which features Chris Bown who sings the hook which says ‘beat it’, yeah the whole Rihanna beat down fiasco will follow him forever!! The joint is quite cool though.

I am absolutely tired of hearing Nicki Minaj’s songs on the radio, in the clubs urrghhhh. So when I heard she had a new song out, I expected the worst, but I am now pleasantly surprised.

T.I. featuring Pink is the song of the week on Homeboyz, it is such an amazing song! They better make a video for it!

I need to get my hands on T.I.’s new album, because so far I love everything I am hearing.

Have A Wicked Wednesday xoxo 🙂

OMG i just had to add these 2 videos because they were too awesome not to share.

This one is for one of my special readers, who I need to try these moves with in the club 🙂

and how good does Kendrick Lamar look in a suit and tie!!!

Spotlight on Kenyan Music

That was the amazing voice of this lady known as Sage. I had heard of her before, when she was performing at blankets and wine, but to be honest, she never wowed me then. I guess it was because I had never heard of her, and nothing she sang appealed to me.

Then I heard the jam below and was totally wowed by her vocal prowess, she sounds phenomenal, and I cannot wait to hear more music from her.

You know those sings which you listen to for the first time and love them immediately? That was my first reaction to Dutch, by Fena ft Kagwe Mungai and Toshi. This song is such a pleasure to listen to and everyone can definitely relate to it, it’s my current ring tone.

I am definitely happy that Kenyan artists are upping their game when it comes to the quality of their videos and original concepts, I am so tired of seeing music videos shot in clubs *yawn*. Jay A definitely put in a lot of effort in securing  this  location, costumes and props, with a proper story line.

I am not a fan of Ogopalets, most of the female artists in this label rarely exhibit any musical talent I am sorry to say. Avril has definitely changed my mind about this notion with her new song hakuna yule, she sounds really good.

Who remembers the group XYZee and how crazy girls were about them back in high school? Lexxy came out with a new song, to be honest, I expected it to be wack, but I am pleasantly surprised, it is actually very nice, see for yourself.

I have no idea who sang this song, but I am assuming she is Kenyan and it features Bamboo, produced by Taurus Musik

Nowadays, everyone thinks they can sing, Rachel Marete, former beauty queen wasn’t one to be left behind. You have to give it up to her for fighting to remain relevant. She had her own ten minute fix like show in the States targeting Kenyan diasporans, plus she also vied to become a 106 & Park show host and lost, no surprise there. She released her new single Kelele this year, and I like it, the song has a nice catchy tune, and this is an unbiased opinion coming from someone who loves to hate. She has a banging body though, but those men and all the oil -_-

This next song goes to show that mediocrity sells, nyenyenyenye tutawachapa na slippers, FIMBO CHAPA #enoughsaid

Here’s another jam bound to be a club banger

I saw this Kanja dude on Saturday, dude walks around with some big chains, zile za kufunga gate lol ok, maybe I am exaggerating a bit much, but dang those things were huge. This young cat is making moves in the entertainment industry, definitely looking forward to hearing more music from him. Here is a jam that has not gotten as much airplay that I stumbled upon on his youtube page which I dug.

Hope you enjoyed this musical journey through Kenya 🙂
